According to World Bank estimates, over 75% of people in Madagascar were below the poverty line in 2010. The cost of medical care is high relative to the average Malagasy income, making it difficult for people to get treatment – particularly for disabilities. Physical rehabilitation centers often lack funding and trained staff.
Madagascar ratified the UNCRPD in 2015. Thus, national technical committees are currently developing national plans for physical rehabilitation services and the social inclusion of persons with disabilities.
