Nicaragua ratified the UNCRPD in 2007. Since then, the Ministry of Health (MoH) provides free physical rehabilitation services at state-run centers: the government-run Centro Nacional de Ortesis y Prothesis (CENAPRORTO) is the national reference center and supervises the activities of two satellite centers in remote areas. However, these centers need more funding and qualified staff.

Some NGOs – including our partner, Fundación para la Rehabilitacion Walking Unidos (FURWUS), which has centers in Leon and Managua – also provide services, but some patients cannot afford their fees.
